News - 22 February 2024
In the upcoming film Superman: Legacy, set to kick-start a new DC Universe under the direction of James Gunn, actor Nicholas Hoult has been cast to play the iconic villain Lex Luthor. Traditionally, Lex Luthor is depicted as having a bald head, but Gunn has yet to confirm if this characteristic will also be applied to Hoult's portrayal of the character. Gunn, known for his sense of humor on social media, responded cheekily to a fan's inquiry on Threads asking if he would personally shave Hoult's head for the role.

Gunn quipped, "No, simply because we don't want him to be known as the bloody Lex afterwards."nnThe highly-anticipated film Superman: Legacy is scheduled for release in July 2025. Former Lex Luthor actor Jesse Eisenberg, who portrayed the character in previous DC films, offered some advice to Hoult as he takes on the role.

Eisenberg advised, "Look, don't look to me for inspiration. You have to make the character your own."nnIn addition to Hoult, the star-studded cast of Superman: Legacy includes David Corenswet as Superman/Clark Kent, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, and Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner (Green Lantern).
