News - 13 November 2023
Terminator 2 is a 1991 science fiction film directed by James Cameron and serves as the sequel to The Terminator, released in 1984. Arnold Schwarzenegger reprises his role as The Terminator, model T-800, in this film which became one of his most iconic roles. This installment in the franchise features an alternative ending that could have potentially ended The Terminator storyline for good.

nnTerminator 2: Judgment Day had a budget of 100 million dollars, making it the most expensive film ever made at the time of its release. Despite its high production costs, the film was a commercial success, grossing $204.8 million in the United States and approximately $520 million worldwide.

It also received critical acclaim and won four Oscars including Best Sound and Best Visual Effects.nnThe story of Terminator 2 follows Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton) and her son John Connor (Edward Furlong), who is now a ten-year-old boy. Two Terminators are sent from the future to the present time - one being the T-800 sent to protect John Connor and the other being the T-1000 sent to kill him.

The T-1000 aims to eliminate John in his youth to prevent him from leading the resistance against the machines in the future. The T-800, reprogrammed by the future John Connor, is sent to protect his younger self and stop the T-1000 from altering the course of history.nnIn the original ending of Terminator 2, the T-800 sacrifices itself and the film concludes with Sarah and John driving off into the distance, prepared for the impending Judgment Day.

However, an alternative ending was filmed where Sarah claims they prevented Judgment Day and we see an older Sarah and John living peacefully with their family. This alternate ending would have provided a definitive conclusion to the franchise.nnThe success of Terminator 2 paved the way for a sequel, Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, which was released in 2003.

This installment follows Sarah and John as they fail to prevent Judgment Day and the rise of Skynet, ultimately realizing that their actions in Terminator 2 only delayed the inevitable. Subsequent films in the franchise include Terminator: Salvation (2009) starring Christian Bale, Terminator: Genisys (2015) starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Terminator: Dark Fate (2019) featuring both Arnold Schwarzenegger and Linda Hamilton.nnFor those interested in watching Terminator 2, the film is available for streaming on Netflix.

While the first Terminator film is not included on the platform, Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines can also be viewed for fans looking to continue the Terminator saga.
